About
The journey of a collector
Hi everyone, I'm Francesco
Born and raised in Rome, I've always balanced my life between my deep-rooted passion for football (proudly supporting AS Roma) and a visceral connection with music. In 1991, I began my journey as a DJ, spinning records in the most iconic clubs of my city and even experiencing the thrill of recording my own disc. This background as a DJ naturally evolved into a life-long mission: collecting the sounds that shaped an era.
As a true fanatic of the 80s, my obsession goes beyond the band's discography. I take great pride in my dedicated collection of over 200 original 7-inch vinyl singles from that era. To me, these records are more than just plastic; they are vibrant time capsules of the neon-lit energy that defined a generation. I believe that the ritual of placing a needle on a 7" single is the purest way to experience the magic of that decade.
My journey as a fan began in the autumn of 1984. I remember hearing "People Are People" on the radio for the very first time and thinking, "WOW! I like it!". Soon after, a school friend's sister gave me a cassette tape with their best songs, and I never looked back. For over 40 years, the synth-driven landscapes of the 80s—from New Wave to Synthpop—have been my sanctuary.
Today, my collection is a meticulous archive of over 2,500 items exclusively dedicated to Depeche Mode. I am particularly focused on official CD albums: first editions, represses, and reissues from every corner of the globe. From the elusive 7" UK promo of "Behind The Wheel" to my current quest to complete the Japanese promo discography, every piece is logged in a precise database. For me, "Violator" remains the ultimate masterpiece, with "Enjoy The Silence" as its perfect heartbeat.
Record Collector Collaboration
I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Record Collector magazine for a special issue dedicated to the band, published by Diamond Publishing Ltd. (Record Collector Presents Depeche Mode, released in 2021). I curated the sections related to the band's rare albums and singles, as well as compiling the official UK discography section. It was a definitive milestone in my life as a collector.
